CharityComms creates an Internal Comms Networking Group

CharityComms has established its Internal Comms Networking group at the request of IC leads from its big charity members. The new group is a reflection of the increasing recognition of internal comms as a vital component in charities’ communications mix. The format of these events, supported by Agenda Consulting and hosted by the British Red Cross, is designed to encourage a combination of networking and information sharing.

Vicky Browning, director of CharityComms, said: “Internal comms is moving from its traditional role as a distributor of information from the leadership to the masses towards becoming a strategic partner in mobilising staff to achieve organisational goals. We wanted to create a space where IC leads from UK charities could come together to talk about common strategic successes and issues through honest, open discussion with other specialists.”

Roger Parry, director of Agenda Consulting, commented: “We know that it is really important for staff to understand an organisation’s mission and its priorities. Internal Comms play an important role in helping staff to gain deeper insight into decisions made by the leadership.

There didn’t seem to be any forums which focussed solely on internal comms for charities and thought it would be a good idea to have a place where important issues could be discussed with like-minded people. We wanted to support the Internal Comms Networking group and look forward to sharing ideas with the IC leads on various topics over the coming year.”

About CharityComms
CharityComms is a membership network for communications professionals working in UK charities. It exists to help raise the standards of communications across the sector, to fly the flag for communications as a vital strategic function at the heart of charities, and to connect communications professionals by sharing best practice.

CharityComms looks at communications in its broadest sense, covering the whole comms remit including brand management, campaigning, consumer insight, digital and social media, fundraising communications, internal comms, marketing, market research, media relations, policy and public affairs, public/external relations, publishing and information, reputation and risk management and social marketing (behaviour change).

In addition, it’s spreading the message of the value of effective communications to key influencers within and beyond charities, including colleagues in fundraising and services, senior leadership (CEOs and trustees), the media, politicians and policy makers and any other external bodies which impact on communications activities.
