Strategic People 2019 – A4

Managing sickness absence

The impact of sickness absence on productivity is a common problem for employers. This workshop explores ways of effectively managing sickness absence (using case studies), putting in measures to combat it, and avoiding costly disability discrimination claims. If ultimately dismissal is the only option then proper procedures are essential and this workshop will provide you with the tools to follow these through.

Emma Burrows, Partner, Trowers and Hamlins

Emma is a partner and head of the Trowers & Hamlins’ Employment and Pensions department, which she founded. Emma has specialised in employment law for over 30 years and works with many charities. She edited and contributed to Jordans’ Employment Law for Charities and contributes the employment law section to ICSA’s Charities Handbook.

Chambers 2018 states that Emma is “…razor-sharp but disarmingly pleasant with it, and appears to have an instinctive feel for the best way to achieve your preferred outcome.” Emma advises on all employment law issues including managing employees who are sick and disabled.
