Maximising Gift Aid Return

Over the past few years Help the Aged have invested significantly in their Gift Aid processes. Charles will explain the rigorous processing within the organisation, which has led to consistently clean audits over the past few years, and includes using a state-of-the-art database, outsourcing the chasing of gift aid forms to a telemarketing company, and moving all the forms onto an electronic system to make the audit trail easier to follow. Help the Aged’s trading arm has just passed the £1million gift aid mark, and Charles will also discuss how this was achieved, including the careful balance that was struck to protect VAT, corporation tax and business rates relief. This workshop will be relevant to both those charities with a trading arm and those without.

Using Balanced Scorecard Reporting Strategically

Peter joined ARC in March last year just as they were completing a 5-year strategic plan. To help the finance function to achieve the plan and to demonstrate quality, Peter developed a bespoke balanced scorecard reporting system which includes the key elements of the plan along with specific measures. He believes that balanced scorecard reporting is a key tool in internal communications, allowing him to really engage the trustees in the activities of the finance function.

Finance Count workshop: Purchasing Systems and Controls

5th March 2008

Chris Day, Strategic Procurement Manager at RNIB, will provide an overview of where Purchasing previously was as a function within RNIB and where it is now. He will demonstrate the relevant procurement systems and controls that have been used to create more effective contract management. RNIB have also implemented a supplier reducing program and group-wide purchasing agreements. This worshop is now FULLY BOOKED.

Finance Count Workshop: Investment Strategy

Russell Shea, Finance Director at Charitable Funds for Hammersmith Hospitals, will be sharing his experience of investment strategy at the Funds. He will discuss several different strategies, as well as asset classes and the effect that the charity’s mission has on investment. Finally he will explain the rationale behind his approach to investment diversification.
